Summer's Here!

June 21st is a glorious day and nothing less. It is so for many reason. It marks the summer solstice and the first day of summer. It's also the perfect day for a birthday. Apart from Father's Day, there are no other holidays to distract from the birthday celebration. It's also in perfect relation to Christmas with six months on either side. I mean, far be it from me to distract from the true reason of Christmas by celebrating my own Birthday, so I decided, well my parents decided for me, to join to "race" as far away from Christmas as I could. I'm 25, and so far it's not that bad.

Beth and I decided to hit the road and head to Atlanta for my Birthday. We stayed with Aaron and Amy (in their new house) for a couple of days, and mostly just relaxed. Except for a trip to IKEA which preceded a interesting jaunt through the Bodies Exhibition. If you haven't heard of The Bodies Exhibition check it out here. I don't know about you, but there's no better way to celebrate a birthday than by holding a real human brain in your bare hands.

The Exhibition was pretty amazing, somehow they preserved and then displayed cadavers which were donated to science. Each one was dissected to show a different system of the body. It's incredible how intricate our design is, we are a creation, we were created, there is a creator- no doubt. One section displayed the progression of a fetus from something like "4 weeks" to just before full term. The older babies had died due to complications; one had developed with organs on the outside, another with a fully developed body and a undeveloped head. None of the adult bodies had skin, so they were almost unrecognizable as human, but I couldn't help but wonder what their stories were. How they died? How they Lived? I was supposed to take pictures, but sorry no photos allowed. Oh, one room displayed healthy lungs versus smokers lungs. The contrast was obvious. The smokers lungs were almost fully blackened by tar. The lungs act as a filter for the air we breath by absorbing any impurities, smoke is incredibly impure. At the exit of the room was a large clear case partly filled with cartons of cigarettes, apparently some people need visual proof of the hazards of smoking before they can give their smokes up-all of the cartons in the case were given up by exhibition visitors.

It's been awhile since I've had such a low key birthday, but it was perfect. If you haven't celebrated, take a few minutes and enjoy yourself in the name of my birthday. Go ahead you deserve it.

-well alright-

Johnny, are you in Houston, or has the exhibit moved? It was here for a while, and I wanted to go see it, but didn't get a chance. Part of it was that I worried my sensitive stomach couldn't handle it.

That sounds AWESOME! Seriously, but I think my kids might freak if i took them- M too, so i guess if I go it will have to be a solo date.
I should tell my inlaws- they're near ATL and need to give up smoking (haha)

Hey John!
I had 6 Coronas, two Heinekens and a mudslide for you on Saturday night! Thanks for the hang over and hope you had a great birthday!

That suck you couldn't get any pictures for me, argh. I'd love to see it but it's not too realistic thinking I'll have the time to make it down there.

Hey, I'll give you a call tomorrow. My CSX contact got back to me about some ties. I was thinking of asking you to truck out with me this afternoon to have a look at them, but it rained all day and I felt lazy. Maybe tomorrow??
